About this ebook

A fun new romance in the Schubert series from Kirsty Ferry.

Coffee, cake and cats ...

These are a few of Lexie Farrington’s favourite things, and when she walks into the Thistledean Café in Edinburgh, she’s delighted to find all three: coffee, cake, a big black cat on a purple lead being held by a very grumpy-looking pirate. Okay, maybe she wasn’t quite expecting that one ...

Of course, Billy McCreadie isn’t really a pirate; he just knows a lot about them and is on his way to give a historical talk to school kids, hence the get-up. He’s also in desperate need of a cat sitter.

When Lexie steps in, little does she realise that Billy will be the key to a hidden Edinburgh she would have never discovered herself, and he might also be the man to help solve a certain piratical puzzle of her own ...

Take a dose of good humour, add magical spells, history & romance and it all adds up to another fantastic Kirsty Ferry novel. Schubert the cat is the real star of this book. Lexie is visiting Edinburgh researching her family tree. She meets Billy who is dressed as a pirate for a talk at his niece’s school. Billy’s sister Nessa was in the previous book in the series. Nessa is a witch who likes to play matchmaker. Lexie & Billy hit it off. Billy helps Lexie find the missing link to her family tree. It turns out that she is related to a Spanish pirate called Luis and a Scottish woman called Mhairi. Mhairi’s ghost is in the local cemetery. It has been disturbed by Billy’s niece Isabel who made a binding spell & put it in a flask of tea to get Lexie & Billy together but accidentally spilled some on Mhairi’s grave.

This is another fun romance from Kirsty. Although part of a series it is a great read as a standalone book. The meeting of Billy and Lexie is not just the chance it appears to be. As you follow their investigations into the past you get to meet more of Billy's family and some of Lexie's. Oh, and of course Schubert the cat plays an important part. I love Kirsty's books and this is no exception. A rollicking story, good characters, romance and a cat. What more can you ask for? OK, chocolate but you can't have everything!
