A Fitness Spa Like You've Never Experienced Before

Professor Abby Stafford was burned out. She was overweight, middle-aged, and tired. She'd even thought about suicide, but there were her dogs. Who would care for them? So she kept trudging on.

A summer as a test subject for a supplement that was designed to help her feel better, look younger, sounded just like what the doctor ordered. What did she have to lose?

But Wolf Harbor Resort may have left out a few of the side effects....

First in a new paranormal romance series, Wolf Harbor —— a feminist werewolf story.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. The heroine is smart, down-to-earth, and does what needs done. I feel like it's a more mature book, and that it's written at a slightly higher reading level than the usually-pushed tenth grade. I am going to greatly enjoy reading more by this author.

I loved this book; I connected on so many levels. Not only was the female protagonist post menopausal, but she had lived AND REFLECTED ON her years of experience. She had experienced many different cultures which exposed her to many differing ways of solving similar problems. She had been, at least somewhat out in the world, and was therefore experienced in navigating the cutthroat world of academia, research and dealing with prickly egos. She had helped students grow and transition to adults, managed both men and women younger and older than she and understood how to lead people without giving up either her principles or her ideas of the best way to proceed but at the same time was humble enough to recognize what she didn't know and to see guidance to learn what she needed. I loved that her mate bond seemed to be anchored in a mutual respect rather than inst-lust, which seems much more realistic to me. And I also loved that the social threat grew out of the aberrant actions of the society, again something which seems much more realistic than something foreign threatened by "others." How often do we not realize that our problems so often occur because we cut off our noses to spite our faces? All characters were well drawn, relatable and appealing, the plot moved along quickly but not so fast I wanted to stop the action and go back to a previous scene to see what I missed. the writing itself was accessible using enough variety to avoid boredom but not so high-faluting that I needed a dictionary every sentence. Neither did I have ANY instance when I thought, she must have meant X instead of what she wrote. All in all, I though it was an almost perfect story and I am delighted I came across it on Google Books. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the paranormal. Many thanks! I hope to read more by Breedlove.

I enjoyed this first book, but was slightly concerned about an omitted and important part. The premise you gave for the "retreat" on Hat Island was because of the women being post-menopausal. Yet, when Abby found out from her wolf and Jake that she would no longer be in that category, Abby didn't inform the other women or Dr. Leibenev. That seemed like a crucial point for the women because they would now be fertile and able to help the repopulation of the shifters. Especially since they were having sex like crazy with their "protectors" without protection.

About the author

L.J. Breedlove writes suspense novels of all kinds, police procedurals, historical mysteries, romantic suspense and political thrillers. And now a paranormal suspense series — Wolf Harbor.

She's been a journalist, a professor, and now a fiction writer. (And a ranch hand, oceanography lab assistant, librarian assistant, cider factory line worker, and a typesetter. Oh, and worked in the laundry of an old folks home, something that inspired her to become an over-educated adult who would never be that desperate for a paycheck again.) She covered politics, among other things, taught media and politics, among other things, and writes political novels. You've been warned.
