This was kind of a wild journey watching Edrice ascend to godhood. I loved reading the descriptions of the Egyptian afterlife she had to make her way through, and all her challenges were quite interesting. However, I feel like I was missing something in the romance that anchors this story by not having read the prequel novella. I adored seeing the love and devotion Edrice and Menefer have for one another, but it’s already so well-established that I didn’t think there was any question

Derive and Menefer are the two focused in this romance. High Priestess Edrice is given an opportunity to rise and be a Goddess in her own right but the tests she has to pass is a hard one. She fails she exists no more on any plain. Menefer is anxious he wants her safe. Can she choose to ignore her heart or can there be a way to triumph in both endeavours. I read this in a boxset and found this story an emotional tough one. It deals with conviction and trials. A personal struggle and decision making. Where all these forgotten Egyptian gods stories are based on fiction, each novel carries a significant moral or lesson. This story focuses on High Priestess of Ma’at, Edrice & her love Menefer, High Priest of Horus. She goes through the trial to become a goddess of truth (ultimate lie detector). Beautifully written.
