Having read a number of books by this author, this one does not disappoint. Olivia is a rich girl who tries to ease her guilt for something she did by becoming a "caretaker". She thinks this person is an elderly gentleman. But boy was she wrong. Her elderly gentleman turns out to be 24 year old Paul Langdon. Paul was a Marine who was injured in Afghanistan. He lost his friends in a devastating attack. He was captured and tortured and had to watch his best friend die in front of him. Paul comes back a broken man. He is angry and feels guilty he survived. He has locked himself away from society and hasn’t been out in a couple of years. Because most all of the action takes place at the remote mansion Paul lives in and between just Paul and Olivia, I thought it might be a little boring. But it worked. Olivia is sassy and feisty and is determined to “fix” not only Paul but herself. Of course Paul want’s nothing to do with her. He is just down right mean and goes out of his way to hurt Olivia at every turn. She gives back as much as she gets until Paul pulls one last mean stunt that sends her away. By the end both characters have grown and learned what is important,

I'm a big fan of Lauren's novels and she never fails to disappoint me. She's so amazingly gifted at writing. I hope I'm an ounce as good of a writer as she is♥

No words to describe just awesome this book is. It has a modern day Pride & Prejudice feel. I love it!

About the author

Lauren Layne is a New York Times bestselling author of contemporary romance novels. Prior to becoming a writer, she worked in e-commerce and Web marketing. In 2011 Lauren and her husband moved from Seattle to New York City, where she decided to pursue a full-time writing career. It took six months to get her first book deal (despite Lauren’s ardent assurances to her husband that it would take only three).
