Deborah Beam Shelley is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Houston-Downtown, USA. Her research interests are in the area of interpersonal communication and, in particular, myths and stereotypes about sex, love, and romance. She is currently applying Roland Barthes’ theory of how myths are changed to variations in fairy tales.
