About this ebook

“Happiness is a wonderful feeling. It makes you feel good in any situation. It gives you hope in times of despair. It makes you feel peace in aworld of turmoil. I want you to be happy anytime you wish it. To do that, you are invited to travel and learn with David, a young Lakota Indian who learned the secret of being happy. . . .”

In this Native American allegory, a young Lakota boy named David is despondent over the death of his sister and fears that he will never know happiness again. His father gives him a gift, a scroll with seven pictures, which properly understood, hold the keys to self-understanding.

In an entertaining and deeply moving way, Lessons of a Lakota blends traditional Native American beliefs in meditation, dreams, and respect for the harmony and balance of nature, with more modern principles such as positive thinking and self-awareness.

This book will teach you about yourself, show you what it means to be happy, and lead you on your own personal journey to inner peace.

Billy Mills brings essential principles for nurturing happiness in our everyday lives to light in a clear, entertaining and inspiring way. The understated nature of the writing keeps lofty principles grounded. Whilst the narrative is very simple this allows the book to do its work effectively. Mills offers some nuts and bolts practices that I have integrated into my life with powerful effect. I highly recommend this book for those who would like to take responsibility for their happiness and wellbeing.

About the author

Born June 30, 1938 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Billy Mills is an Oglala Sioux Indian whose given Native-American name is "Loves His Country." Although an outstanding long distance runner, Mills' accomplishment at the 1964 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan stands as one of the most shocking upsets in modern sports. During these games, Billy Mills stunned spectators in one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history, when, as a virtual unknown, he outpaced the competition in the last 100 meters of the 10,000-meter race and took home a gold. He was not only the first American to win that event but in the process set an Olympic record of 28 minutes, 24.4 seconds. Mills now serves as the national spokesperson for the aid organization Running Strong for American Indian Youth. The movie Running Brave is based on his life story.
