About this ebook

Alicia Lindsay, the Dowager Countess Lindsay, has spent her life under the dominion of men— leered at, yes, but ultimately silenced and cast aside. But widowhood has granted her the freedom to voice her critiques against injustices in articles that have enraptured the nation. Resolved to bring about political change, Alicia’s investigation of the newest party candidates leads her to the captivating, hardheaded Lord Inverray. She’s unprepared when he proves to be not only charming but chivalrous when a slight wardrobe malfunction—with all eyes of the ton upon them—forces her to accept his proposal. Now she’s keeping a huge secret from her soon-to-be-husband.

Niall Campbell, Marquess of Inverray, has spent years finding support for numerous legislations to help his fellow Scots. Now poised to grasp the party leadership, his success has been threatened by anonymous articles critiquing his campaign. Niall vows to find the author and silence them, no matter the cost. But when he finds himself engaged to an alluring widow with a sharp tongue, his plans get derailed in more ways than one...

*** Two political minds clash *** Great story of a Scottish Lord heir to a dukedom dedicating his life for the betterment of the common people of England by being in parliament. He meets a woman who carefully and with great wit expresses her political views when they lived in a time when women were not to have a feather in their brain. She could have run for office if women were allowed to. That is how deeply involved in politics our heroine was. I also adored the fact that our hero had founded and supported an orphanage. Two little girls, sisters, were just the ticket to bring the great big Scotsman to his knees. They were adorable in their love for the big guy. When trouble comes the heroine comes in to the rescue and our hero falls more in love with his lady. When our heroine’s secret life is exposed to a few it caused a great deal of turmoil, pain, blackmail and fear. A wonderful book. Do not pass this up. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this book. I received an Advance Readers Copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Informative Inspirational Page-turner Realistic Steamy Unpredictable Witty Wonderful characters

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it. First of all, while this is a part of a series, you do not have to read the prior stories to thoroughly enjoy this one. The couples from those stories do make multiple appearances so if you have read them, it will be like catching up with them. Second I would like to say that this is a historical romance (hint that means this is a story). There is a sexy scene but this is a story not erotica that portends to be a romance. This is about Niall and Alicia and how they achieve their HEA. He is a Scottish lord who seeks to become England's Prime Minister. He has been busy with all that entails plus he helps at a foundling home. He has no time for romance. Especially now that a mysterious writer of "chapbooks" has started to write about him and his political works. The said writer of the books isn't a man but a woman, more specifically, the writer is Alicia, the Dowager Countess of Lindsay. Alicia admires Niall but she feels he can use some prodding in areas. That is what her writings are for NOT to criticize like he and his mentor think. Due to a wardrobe mishap, the two marry. Alicia worries about Niall finding out about her pastime of writing and demanding that she quits. Niall meanwhile is busy that he pushes Alicia away. These two have some hurdles to over come that were mostly of their own making! I adored both of these protagonists. Having this book written in a dual POV really showed them in the best way. Again there is a sexy scene so I could not recommend this to someone under the age of 18. To someone over 18, I would highly recommend it especially if you adored a quick-witted female!

Widowed countess Alicia secretly writes political tracts criticizing the government's slowness in implementing reforms like child labor laws. One of her targets is Niall, heir to a duke and an MP seeking to become prime minister. When Niall and Alicia become compromised and are forced to marry, she doesn't reveal her alter ego to her husband. What happens when the truth comes out? This is a smart, well-researched, issue-oriented story. I would have preferred more backstory and character development, and less politicking. That's just a personal preference, though—not a criticism of the book. Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
