I read these separately, so here is my review for each book: DUST AND SHADOW - 3.5 stars rounded to 4 Loses a point for not having enough action for my liking, but I expect the next book is going to be explosive. It is more of a 3.5 in my head so I round up with 4 stars, but it is a little on the slow side for me. I would definitely want to read the next books, find out what happens to Jo and Clayton. But I feel like the major story is yet to come and this was somehow a very long introduction. Of course, it sets the scene really well, you start to understand the characters and see how the town is organized, the different hierarchies that come into play. You begin to peek behind the scenes at how it all works and start to put together some theories of where this story is going to take you. We do get some action, especially one of the last scenes, but mostly the story focuses on explaining how each character arrived at that point in time, it really dredges up the worst situations that each has been through and you feel like you have lived it with them. What Jo has been through in her childhood explains clearly why she would want to avoid any contact with people: but the world comes looking for her, marshal's sneaky plans snakes through her legs and Jo has no other choice but to face it all and hope that she comes out alive at the other end. EARTH AND EMBER - 5 stars = my favorite in the series <3 Swept away with a rich and action packed story What a fantastic addition to the Forgotten Lands series! I was swept away in this story, absolutely loved the native American tribes, with their culture and history, their love for nature and life enriching the plot. To me, this book is even better than Book 1. There is so much richness to the background of both main characters and the dangers of the world makes it fast paced and "un-put-downable". I am in love with Kaia and Luke! This book does not focus on Jo and Clayton but they do make cameos in the book, their participation is perfectly interwoven into the plot. Looking forward to the next book in the series! TIDE AND TEMPEST - 5 stars - jaw dropping plot scenes What. A. Ride! If you like twists and turns this is the book for you! Although this book forms part of a series, it can likely be read separately from the other books, as it does not refer strongly to the other stories in this world. But oh what a world it is! We meet Samara in a small fishing village, and not only do those that live in this wet and dreary place have to deal with electrical storms zapping people off the face of the earth, but pirates and raiders lurk everywhere. This book was rife with twists and turns and I was left with my jaw dropped open in a few occasions, second guessing all my theories about where the characters or the story was leading - just the way I like it! Samara will imprint on your mind and you won't ever forget her!
