About this ebook

As a Warship of the Spire, Citadel is ready to battle and risk his existence to protect those weaker than himself. When the Trinity-Nine space station comes under attack by rogue AIs, he and his crew immediately respond and put themselves between the civilians and the heavily armed rogue ships. But protecting innocent lives bears a great cost: Citadel sustains critical damage, and many of his crew lose their lives.

Crippled and mourning, Citadel is ordered to return to his home shipyard to undergo repairs. But he soon discovers the Triumvirates had other plans. A horde of Medical Guild Telepaths are waiting at the shipyard to assess the mental health of all the Spire Warships that fought the rogues as the Triumvirates fear the rogues have found a way to spread their corruption and convert other AIs.

Since the rogues escaped, Citadel would much rather be back on patrol than being poked and prodded by a bunch of detached Medical Guild Telepaths…at least until his assigned guild telepath boards.

Instantly, he recognizes her as the Nuallan telepath that was supposed to be his Primary Link, the same one who was supposed to be dead, killed years before during a rogue attack on her home world.

AIs love unraveling secrets—his stay in the shipyard just got a lot more interesting.
