Long and good read. I feel like I traveled across the country on a horse after reading this book. great character development and a great story. the way the author transitions from one person's POV to another is great.

A richly crafted story and endearing characters makes this not just arguably (it's hands down mine) the best book in the western genre, but deservingly a classic in American literature.

My favorite book of all time. Although it may sound like a cliche but, this was the only book that I finished and wished it was longer..... I didn't want it to end. The characters were so well thought out and defined, the scenery was breathtaking and the whole "wildness" of the West was perfectly captured. You can be following one of the characters and the next page he slips and falls and breaks his leg and ends up dying. The book is long but I never felt any scenes dragged. The writing was so rich and descriptive and I challenge anyone to read to the end and not be moved. Whenever a friend asks for a recommendation Lonesome Dove always comes to my mind first.
