He wanted to show her fairytales exist in real life and he ends up hurting her. Such irony. He used her to get shared custody over his daughter taking for granted her consent and when things seems to mess up, he pushed her away, not needing her help anymore, or afraid of letting her see he was not the perfect knight he was faking to be. But like all fairytales and real life, whatever their trials, they did live happily ever after.
