Scrivendo le sue memorie in forma di romanzo, Del Bono fu costretto, per mantenere il fluire della narrazione, a condensare alcuni avvenimenti bellici dei quali fu protagonista e testimone, e a preferire la notazione delle sue emozioni e pensieri all’impersonale descrizione dei fatti d’arme.
