Leggendo il dramma, in un primo momento si corre il rischio di essere confusi, quasi storditi dalla trama, ma poi tutto diventa chiaro, nitido e il senso dell'opera emerge prepotentemente. Il lettore è messo, cosi, davanti alla profonda consapevolezza, che la vita è come una rappresentazione teatrale in cui non siamo liberi di viverla come vorremmo, ma siamo costretti a sottostare a regole costituite, imposte da un tessuto sociale, quasi come se qualcun'altro avesse scritto la trama della nostra vita e noi fossimo obbligati necessariamente a recitare una parte.
