भारत की पावन भूमि पर अनेक संत-महात्मा और ऋषि-मुनियों ने जन्म लिया। उनके द्वारा दिए गए सत्य; प्रेम; त्याग और मानवता के संदेशों से संपूर्ण विश्‍व ने प्रेरणा ली है। ऐसे ही एक तपस्वी; भारत के गौरव और महान् विभूति ने 12 जनवरी; 1863 को कलकत्ता में जन्म लिया; जिसका नाम था—स्वामी विवेकानंद।
नरेंद्र अर्थात् स्वामी विवेकानंद ने हिमालय से लेकर कन्याकुमारी तक पूरे देश का भ्रमण किया। अनेक स्थानों पर उन्होंने अपने व्याख्यानों से युवाओं को प्रभावित ही नहीं किया अपितु उन्हें एक नई दिशा दी। यहाँ तक कि उन्होंने राजा-महाराजा और नवाबों को उपदेश दिए। 11 सितंबर; 1893 को शिकागो में विश्‍व धर्म सम्मेलन हुआ। इसमें उनके द्वारा दिए गए भाषण ने पूरे विश्‍व में तहलका मचा दिया और हिंदू आध्यात्मिकता का परचम पूरे विश्‍व में लहरा दिया। इसके पश्‍चात् स्वामीजी ने अनेक देशों का भ्रमण किया तथा उपदेश दिए।
स्वामी विवेकानंद के जीवन की अनेक घटनाओं का वर्णन उनके जीवन पर आधारित विभिन्न पुस्तकों में मिलता है; जिन्हें हमने कहानियों के रूप में प्रस्तुत करने का प्रयास किया है। विश्‍वास है; स्वामी विवेकानंद के जीवन पर आधारित ये प्रेरक कहानियाँ अवश्य ही पाठकों के जीवन को एक नई दिशा प्रदान करेंगी।
