I didn't realize that this is a first book when i purchased it, and the ending didnot compel me to read the next one.. (it is the opposite actually, bcos i prefer a fun light regency story, not a darker one)

M.C. Beaton (1936-2019) was the author of both the Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series, as well as numerous Regency romances.
