American novelist, short story writer, and designer Edith Wharton (1862–1937) was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1927, 1928, and 1930, and she received the Pulitzer Prize in 1921 for The Age of Innocence. Wharton drew upon her privileged social position to create witty and psychologically insightful novels and short stories.
