जेपी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण का जन्म 11 अक्‍तूबर; 1902 को बलिया जिले के सिताबदियारा गाँव में हुआ था। उनका लालन-पालन बडे़ लाड़-प्यार से हुआ। पढ़ने में जयप्रकाश बडे़ मेधावी थे। पटना के कॉलेजिएट कॉलेज में उनका दाखिला हुआ। उन दिनों स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन जोरों पर था। 18 वर्ष की आयु में उनका विवाह 14 वर्षीय प्रभावतीजी से हो गया। उच्च शिक्षा के लिए जयप्रकाश अमेरिका चले गए और प्रभावती साबरमती आश्रम में रहने लगीं। अमेरिका में रहते हुए उन्होंने पाँच विश्‍वविद्यालयों में अध्ययन किया।
अध्ययन के दौरान जेपी समाजवादी विचारधारा से प्रभावित हुए। स्वदेश लौटकर आजादी की लड़ाई में कूद पडे़। आजादी के बाद उन्होंने बडे़-बडे़ कार्य किए। सन् 1972 में खूँखार डाकुओं का समर्पण कराया। इंदिराजी की तानाशाही के खिलाफ 5 जून; 1974 जेपी ने ‘समग्र क्रांति’ का नारा दिया। आपातकाल के दौरान जेल में उन्हें बहुत यातनाएँ दी गई।
जेपी द्वारा विभिन्न अवसरों पर लगभग सभी विषयों पर अपने विचार व्यक्त किए। देश को दिशा देनेवाले इन विचारों को विभिन्न शीर्षकों के तहत प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में दिया गया है; जिससे पाठकों को जेपी और उनकी दशा-दिशा को समझने में मदद मिलेगी। क्रांतिनायक जेपी के जीवन पर आधारित एक प्रेरणास्पद पुस्तक।
