Acerca deste livro eletrónico

In words and stunning colour pictures, this book tells the history and the current reality of over 50 fieldstone buildings in Saskatchewan. The book includes an introduction by Bernie Flaman, the provincial Heritage Architect, a historical overview, and profiles of several of Saskatchewan's most prominent stonemasons. The balance of the book is made up of stories of the buildings farmhouses, homes in urban communities, places of worship, public buildings and ruins. Margaret Hryniuk uses her years of experience in journalism to present factual yet fascinating accounts of the buildings and what is known of the people who put them there. Larry Easton's spectacular photographs bring these beautiful stone buildings to life, and Frank Korvemaker examines the dimensions and differences of the fieldstone that inhabits the Saskatchewan landscape.

Acerca do autor

Margaret Hryniuk has been writing about heritage buildings since she won a 1978 Saskatchewan Writers' Guild award for her article on the 1896 brick-and-fieldstone Hudson Bay store at Fort Qu'Appelle. Her work has been regularly featured in the Regina Leader-Post and irregularly in national magazines. She is the co-author of "A Tower of Attraction": An Illustrated History of Government House, Regina, Saskatchewan and Regina: A City of Beautiful Houses and Legacy of Stone: Saskatchewan's Stone Buildings.

Larry Easton is a Regina-based freelance photographer and regularly contributes images to Prairies North magazine. His photographs are featured in Legacy of Stone: Saskatchewan’s Stone Buildings and Architecture of Saskatchewan. He has a knack for bringing out the character and warmth of historic construction. Larry's images portray the unique and diverse architecture of many original churches of the varied denominations in Saskatchewan’s first hundred years. In addition, his keen eye often finds some associated natural or peripheral feature that make his photographs so appealing.
