About the author

Marilyn Martyn is a teacher and librarian, now specializing in teaching literacy and numeracy skills, to both children and adults, as a private tutor. She has had thirty plus years teaching experience, in primary and secondary schools. She has also worked as an education consultant for two publishing companies. During her teaching career she found opportunities to teach children who had difficulty learning to read. Martyn is passionate about teaching children to read and write. She knows firsthand the effect poor literacy skills have on learning and self esteem for so many people. After sitting with many frustrated students who did not know how to decode (sound out) words, Martyn devised a series of lessons that gave them the ability to decode quickly. These lessons are the foundation of her book. Marilyn wrote Phonics for Kids to share her knowledge and experience and as a contribution to the literacy development of children.
