This wonderful book has some of the best poets in contemporary American poetry. As an editor and publisher of poetry, I can tell you that no anthology is ever complete. Poetry is a moving art with new works coming out daily from astounding poets. But this book is one that will be on my lap for many years. Bidart, Hillman, Hirshfield, Howe, Oliver and Strand are long time favorites. I'm glad to see new poets included as well.

About the author

David Lehman, the series editor of The Best American Poetry, edited The Oxford Book of American Poetry. His books of poetry include The Morning Line, When a Woman Loves a Man, and The Daily Mirror. The most recent of his many nonfiction books is The Mysterious Romance of Murder: Crime, Detection, and the Spirit of Noir. He lives in New York City and Ithaca, New York.

Mark Doty's books of poetry and nonfiction prose have been honored with numerous distinctions, including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the PEN/Martha Albrand Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and, in the United Kingdom, the T. S. Eliot Prize. In 2008, he won the National Book Award for Fire to Fire: New and Selected Poems. He is a professor at the University of Houston, and he lives in New York City.
