As a very big fan of Mark Twain, this is perhaps a biased review, but I think it says a lot about where he was near the end of his career. I think it also is important that he had his say here, sometimes with less flair than in other works, but often with more honesty. I think it is a valuable read for any one who looks to learn more about Samuel Clemens than about Mark Twain.

i've enjoyed Twain for decades... tho The Mysterious Stranger was edited from notes he left, i found in the writings much of his dry witticism and candid observations of politics throughout. there are many great paragraphs [that hold true today] that make TMS worth reading again.
