Somebody Like You takes place in the beautiful city of Anchorage, Alaska. If one enjoys sweet romance with fascinating characters, settings, maybe even dogs and cats, search no more. The characters are dedicated to the work they are gifted for. There is grief and conflict as well as humor and good times. The characters seem to meet by accident … Oscar loves all kinds of animals has recently finished veterinary school, and is opening his own practice, knowing it will take time and hard work. His mother, Kelly, is continually worried about his lack of love life, and set him up with a blind date. Again. Lolly’s great-aunt has had hip replacement surgery so Lolly came to Anchorage to be short-term, live-in help for Aunt Ann. Lolly’s dream is to be a country music writer and singer, so she is going to meet with an agent named Kelley who promises to get her ready for the big time. Oscar and Lolly meet completely by accident while at the same place to meet different people. After all, his mother’s name is Kelly, so when she comes in looking for Kelley, he thinks … oopsie. One irritated young woman stormed out when realizing Oscar was talking with Lolly, and Lolly realizes she has been stood up by the agent. When misunderstandings are sorted out, it takes a retired sled dog called Timber to re-introduce them. Lolly, however, is clear – she isn’t staying in Alaska. She is giving her dream career a chance to get off the ground, or if it crashes, return to the Midwest. Even if she must leave Oscar behind. Even if she never “flies” at Beluga Point again. There is a mix of personalities, and the author is adept at showing those characters well. I can almost picture Oscar giving his mom a pregnant cat to take care of, to get her attention off him. Lolly is a lovely young woman who has an overbearing agent. Even Timber has his own pup-sonality which, sadly, drives him to disappear when disagreements upset him. The plot is interesting, showing what happens when God’s plan and our own conflict, smashing headlong into each other. The story moves at an even pace. The end is exhilarating and surprising. I highly recommend this to readers of sweet romances. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and was under no obligation to post a review.
