The Stubborn Lord is the sixth book in Pillow’s Dragon Lords series, and is the second book in the royal cousins/nephews arc of the series. It’s the story of Kendall and Alek, and it’s a rough one indeed. Kendall ends up on Qurilixen because her father loses her over a gambling debt. She’s confused, upset, and has a burning need to get back home and rescue her little sister. Alek, who has been waiting for years for his mate to show up, is ecstatic of course, but like older brother Bron’s ceremony, Alek’s night doesn’t go in the traditional manner. Because of mistakes he makes, Alek understands immediately that he needs to get Kendall where she has to go. This is the first time readers really see the more futuristic aspects of the Qurilixen Worlds and the universe around them, and that’s a fun adventure. Like so many of the Dragon Lords, Alek faces the knowledge that losing Kendall will leave him alone for the rest of his life – something his bride doesn’t quite understand. The Stubborn Lord is an intriguing twist to the series with new attitudes and settings, though there is some repetition of the events of the previous book, featuring Alek’s brother Bron and his bride. The repeated events do seem to stretch out a bit, but I don’t know that they’d be at all bothersome unless the reader were binging the series, where it probably stands out more. I really liked Alek’s refreshing determination and his adaptability to meet his mate’s needs, and felt for Kendall, whose situation is painful for her and for the reader. Pillow does a good job working from what could be a very problematic start to her time on Qurilixen, giving her a lot of agency throughout the story. I also very much enjoyed the time Alek spends with his brothers. The overarching issues introduced in book 5 are developed further in this installment of the series, and though this book ends with some questions, it also introduces some new characters and ideas that this reader, for one, is eager to see developed throughout the various other Qurilixen Worlds stories. I very much enjoyed this Dragon Lords installment, and am looking forward to book 7 in the series! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Kendall Haven spent all her live on board ships and docking stations her family owned a fueling dock she has never spend any time on worlds. So when her father looses her because of a gambling addiction and he uses her as collateral and the collectors come to collect the transaction does don't go well, I mean why would it her father of all people used her to cover he's debt. Kendall wakes some time after only to learn she has been sold of to Galaxy Bride's and she doesn't know how much time she has lost while but in stasis. She only knows one thing she needs to get back and hopefully save her younger sister from the same fate . Lord Alek young Duke of Draig has attended a few of the bridal ceremonies before with no luck of a bride why should this year be any different he attends only because of duty to his family and of his people. He however meets his bride in the woods near the ceremony will she tries and runs away. When the two meet and wed some time after ,Kendall begs and pleas with Alek that she needs to leave for home and explains to him why he is only happy to help and hopes he does not loose her .She learns of her fathers fate he has passed on and has lost her sister to the same way he has lost her .She is some what broken heart that she does not find her there. Will she ever find Alek assures her they will he will do whatever is in his and his family power to find her .She also realizes how much she truly loves Alek and what is is to be truly loved and cared for it gives her hope that one day her sister and her will be reunited again and she to will feel what it is to be loved and cared for by family. There is a lot more to this story then of what I speak but I don't want to tell all so just pick up the book and read for yourself it will be worth it.

I love the Dragon Lords and have read from this series for years. This one, The Stubborn Lord, has all the characteristics of the better stories: struggling family dynamics (for both Kendall and Alex) with unique romantic obstacles, unusual (okay, sometimes weird) cultural attributes, not the best political situation, truly inspired world-building, great technology--all skillfully swirled together to develop the current story, yet also add so much more to the entire Lords saga.
