It's all leading to something... (I hope). As the first book in the 'Dark Times' series, it certainly lives up to it's name. The dark times being referred to in this story is of how a handful of remaining Jedi are surviving right after Order 66. If you're looking for a fun, adventurous (and sometimes silly) romp around the Star Wars galaxy then look somewhere else, because these are pretty depressing stories. We're talking loads of death (and not just Storm Troopers), bittersweet victories, betrayal, loss of self, slavery, and torture. In this book, you get a small peek into Darth Vader's daily struggle with physical pain, trying to find his purpose, and dealing with his current position. But really this book mostly focuses on a Nosaurian's (a Triceratops species) struggle of tremendous loss, Jedi Dass Jennir's gradual loss of self/duty, and Jedi K'Kruhk's self-survival while trying to saving others. There's no joy in this book and it was pretty tough for me to get through.

I have read a decent bit of comics from silly to serious and most if not all never scratched that itch of a truly good story. This omnibus however was the perfect blend of art, story, action and intrigue. I can't wait for the next one.
