About this ebook

Named a Top Ten Book of the Year by Time, the bestselling debut story collection by the extraordinarily talented Miranda July, award-winning filmmaker, artist, and writer.

In No One Belongs Here More Than You, Miranda July gives the most seemingly insignificant moments a sly potency. A benign encounter, a misunderstanding, a shy revelation can reconfigure the world. Her characters engage awkwardly—they are sometimes too remote, sometimes too intimate. With great compassion and generosity, July reveals her characters’ idiosyncrasies and the odd logic and longing that govern their lives. No One Belongs Here More Than You is a stunning debut, the work of a writer with a spectacularly original and compelling voice.

This collection has some of the best stories I've read in quite a while, full of vivid characters that are real yet somehow askew and lost, always different from what you expect. The shorter vignettes are interesting, but the longer stories in here - like the centerpiece "Something that needs nothing", or the closing "How to tell stories to children" - are simply astounding, as they allow July to go past the personality quirks into something deeper and altogether more heartbreaking. The women and men in July's universe seem to often find themselves adrift in a vast, battering ocean, longing for some human connection but at a loss on how to achieve it and at times making spectacularly bad choices in their desperation; yet July keeps our empathy and lets us see what is human and relatable in these people. A very worthy read.

it's a short story series. The text itself is smooth and easy to read and I liked a couple of the stories.
