Excellent review of how to work a basic fixed-comb box hive or stackable skep. I particularly found the review of the Langstroth hive - and Quinby's preferred embodiment - of interest, considering his notable objection to the use of "patent hives." A pleasant read and recommended.

A great insight into the keeping of bees in the 1800's. There is much to be learnt from a man who watched his bees so closely and made beekeeping more a process less dependent on luck.
