Om den här e-boken

“Mrigtrishna” (“An Unslakeable Thirst Driven By A Mirage”) is a Hindi-English book which delves into the short Urdu verse form called “Shayari”. While the primary verses are in Hindi / Urdu, the author has provided English transliteration and translation for each verse to make the book more widely accessible to the Eglish-speaking readers.

Mrigtrishna relates to an unquenchable thirst which afflicts all of us in various garbs. Many are the times when it expresses itself in an unknown feeling of uneasiness; an uneasiness which does not speak, but one which leaves a distinct impression that it is incessantly whispering its misgivings to the subconscious; that something somewhere is not in its right place, is a tad askew; that there is an elementary disagreement of sorts built into the nature around you. It is an unnamed yearning which keeps you restless, a stutter in the heart which does not relent; a disquiet, a mental disturbance which besets you; a decision which is hanging in balance on some lazy jury’s capricious pleasure...

This disturbance of the conscience is the vessel you have been subconsciously carrying while racing after a mirage, trying to fill it to brim with its silvery but unobtainable waters...

The vessel, and the waters it chases, arise in many forms - a lost memory of childhood; an unrequited love of youth past; some philosophical matters of principle; an amorphous credo to decide matters of right and wrong; a checklist of unfinished tasks or business; unspoken uncertainties of the coming tomorrow, which, if articulated, would ring foolish to the ears; the small desires and demands of daily life; the pleasant conquests of Don Quixote which remain but unfulfilled dreams...

The whisperings of such restlessness are what have been scribbled in the pages here. Perhaps some of these have also whispered to you in a disturbed sleep on a lazy Sunday afternoon...

Om författaren

An Engineered Banker with poetic fancies at heart" is how Vijay Fafat describes himself in self-effacing moments. Born and brought up in Mumbai when it was still "Bombay," Vijay spent half his life in the US before migrating to Singapore. He ardently believes that any form of writing should be immersive, taking the reader on a mind's journey where she feels one with the created word. Whether it is a jolt of Magic Realism story, a set of struggling verses, or even a technical paper, it is the conviction of the writing which is its innate force, its raison d'etre.

Vijay has published 3 books featuring ultra-short short English verses:

- The Ninth Pawn of White - A Book of Unwritten Verses

- Quiescence- Musings Against A Setting Sun

- Steradians - Reflecting the Angular Facets of Life

He has also written 2 books on Hindi-Urdu-English verses:

- Mrigjal Pe Behti Kashti - Sailing on a Mirage

- Mrig-trishna - Unquenched
