This book is an incredible story of John Lott, a small, middle-aged banking clerk, who lived in North London. The story of this gentle and respected man was narrated to the author by Lott himself, but the author has presented it in a first-person narrative to preserve his true nature and characteristics. The writing style of the book is sublime and the story absorbing. It is easily comprehensible which holds the reader's interest throughout. His tawny splendour surrounded me as I trudged from Richmond, in Surrey, to the neighbouring hamlet of Petersham.
