About this ebook

Humanity will finally be saved or destroyed in the shattering conclusion to the post-apocalyptic and highly acclaimed NYT bestselling trilogy that won the Hugo Award three years in a row.

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women.

Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe.

For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

I admit I had to take a break before starting this one. The first two books are emotionally charged, and I think I was a little drained heading into this one. Once I sat down to get to it, though, it was a fantastic conclusion to the series. This series is dense stuff though - it constantly deals with complex, real-world issues. It is certainly not a read for children. In my personal ranking I put this series above Lord of the Rings - perhaps on par with Harry Potter. I see all of LOTR and the first half of HP as lighter, fluffier fantasy stuff - it's good adventure to read, but it doesn't force you to you think and feel like this series did. It's rare that you get an awesome sci fi / fantasy world layered with so many relatable emotions.

This is a science fiction tale of an epic quest. It combines science with gods and interweaves magic in as well. The book's second person narrative takes a little getting used to but is well worth the effort. Like the two previous portions of this trilogy, it is certain to win a well deserved Hugo!

It has been a long time since I didn't see an ending coming. She kept me on my toes through the whole series and forever has a place in my heart and on my shelf. This whole trilogy is a work of art.
