Story is good but holds main plot hostage. The author has a real talent for building the world and envisioning the characters, but it should not come at the expense of the main plot. Read the Afterword (no spoilers there) first and you'll see that this was originally overwritten and split into 2 volumes. While the main plot only advanced by about an hour, it ends in the middle of a pretty important battle. Please don't hit me with flashbacks in the middle of active combat. And by "flashbacks" I mean 4 whole chapters! The editors must have known this was a problem because the main plot resumed for all of 5 pages before launching into another flashback, which was essentially a prequel to the first set of flashbacks. Next time, just write a prequel volume separately. I'd actually love to read a series of volumes over what was contained in the both too-lengthy and too-brief flashback chapters. Just not in the middle of combat. I felt jerked around. Story is good but holds plot hostage.

The first three books were great, this one was kind of a bust for me. It's cool to get some backstory but that's the whole book. The story barely advanced from the third book, in my own opinion id skip this one and just wait and hope book 5 progresses the story

Previous books were great. This one has very little real content, just the same incidents from way too many points of view, and back stories. I think the main storyline advanced about 30 minutes in the entire book.
