THE ICONIC BESTSELLING NOVEL, WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S PRIZE, AND NOW AMAZON TV SERIES STARRING TONI COLLETTE AND AULI?I CRAVALHO

'She throws her head back and pushes her chest forward and lets go a huge blast right into the centre of his body. The rivulets and streams of red scarring run across his chest and up around his throat. She'd put her hand on his heart and stopped him dead.'

Suddenly - tomorrow or the day after - girls find that with a flick of their fingers, they can inflict agonizing pain and even death. With this single twist, the four lives at the heart of Naomi Alderman's extraordinary, visceral novel are utterly transformed, and we look at the world in an entirely new light.

What if the power to hurt were in women's hands?

'Electrifying' Margaret Atwood

'A big, brash, page-turning, thought-provoking thriller' Guardian

Alderman asks the question 'What would the world look like if the balance of power shifted almost overnight?' Her answer is a profound if somewhat horrific examination of the absolute corruption that walks hand in hand with power, especially the power of one person to dominate another through pain and fear. She then shows us, none too gently that the division between dominant and subordinate is not as clearly defined as we might like to believe. I highly recommend this thought provoking read.

This is a really well written and constructed tale of power balance change between the sexes. My only problem is that so many characters were involved but itvwas difficult to identify or empathize with any of them.

There are so many things I loved about this book. The way she took you on a journey, and how you can see reflected everything that is happening in the world today. Really recommend it
