A field experiment was performed to determine the response of a tiltmeter to static loads produced by a vehicle. This report compares the results of a theoretical approximation of the vehicle load, by four point forces acting on a linear elastic single layer homogeneous half space, with the experimental data. Results indicate that this model gives a reasonable approximation to the field data. In order to model the field conditions more realistically, it is suggested that the finite element method be utilized in future studies. (Author).
