About the author

(Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol; Sorochintsi, actual Ucrania, 1809-Moscú, 1852) Escritor ucraniano en lengua rusa. Hijo de un pequeño terrateniente, a los diecinueve años se trasladó a San Petersburgo para intentar, sin éxito, labrarse un futuro como burócrata de la administración zarista. En 1831 se incorporó como profesor de historia a la universidad, donde conocería a Pushkin.
