Nostradamus, latinisiert für Michel de Nostredame, (* 14. Dezember 1503 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Provence; 2. Juli 1566 in Salon-de-Provence) war ein französischer Apotheker und hat als Arzt und Astrologe gearbeitet. Schon zu seinen Lebzeiten machten ihn seine prophetischen Gedichte berühmt, die aus Gruppen von je 100 zusammengefassten Vierzeilern (Quatrains) bestanden, den sogenannten Centurien.
