In der Spannung zwischen Säkularisierung und Sakralisierung wird eine "Rückkehr der Religion" sichtbar, an der die etablierten Kirchen kaum mehr partizipieren. Die institutionalisierte Form des Christentums ist in einem fortschreitenden Prozess des Bedeutungsverlusts begriffen. Die Gründe dafür sind höchst komplex und vielschichtig. Die einzelnen Beiträge der Festschrift zu Ehren von Werner Zager versuchen, sein akademisches Werk aufzunehmen und dabei antwortend auf zentrale Herausforderungen gegenwärtigen Christentums zu reagieren. Die Beitragenden eint mit dem Geehrten die Überzeugung, dass Kirche, will sie in der globalisierten, multireligiösen und zugleich hochtechnisierten Welt nicht weiter marginalisiert werden, dem vorschnellen sacrificium intellectus eine Absage zu erteilen hat und sich stattdessen um einen verstehenden Glauben bemühen muss. [In need for rethinking] In the tension between secularization and sacralization a "return of religion" becomes visible, in which the established churches hardly participate. The institutionalized form of Christianity is in a continous process of loss of relevance. The reasons for this are highly complex and multi-layered. The contributors to the Festschrift in honor of Werner Zager try to refer to his academic work and to respond to the central challenges of contemporary Christianity. The contributors and the honored share the belief that, if the church does not want to be further marginalised in the globalized, multi-religious high-tech world, it is necessary to contradict the sacrificium intellectus and instead strive toward a rational faith.
