About this ebook

This book is the fruit of a teacher-student collaboration that began in 2016. It is designed to help students of Tibetan language make the transition from early stages of study to working with more complex Tibetan literary works, including Dharma texts. Folk tales are ideal for the task: the language hovers somewhere between colloquial and literary, the grammar is relatively straightforward, and the vocabulary is rich and varied while still down-to-earth. The stories also provide a unique window into the lives of ordinary Tibetans of yore-their worries and aspirations, and their rather mischievous sense of humor. For these reasons and more, this book should be of value to any student of Tibetan language and culture.
