关于此电子书

What happens after a champion racehorse retires? Quite a lot as it turns out!

His days of taking home the gold are long gone, but Bertie still has many stories to tell. Join him as he looks back on a weird and wonderful journey as a showjumper and champion racer. As you’ll see inside, it hasn’t all been plain sailing.

From battles with a blacksmith and an unruly jockey, to rival racers and the challenging showjumping course itself, ‘Old’ Bertie’s is a life well lived.

In accordance with the wishes of Tom's family, 10% of all profits from this book will be donated to the British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre in Lancaster to support the welfare of retired racehorses just like Bertie.

作者简介

Thomas Geoghegan (1925 - 1999) was born in Ireland and grew up as the youngest of eight siblings in Mountmellick, County Laois. In 1953, he left the country with his best friend en route to Australia, stopping in England along the way. A skilled carpenter, he married and raised four children in Burton-upon-Trent, a Midlands town renowned worldwide for its brewing heritage.

Tom’s passion for horses was lifelong, and well-known by those closest to him. He also had many musical and dramatic interests; he played the accordion enthusiastically and took part in several amateur plays at the Brewhouse Arts Centre.

Rediscovered over 20 years after his sudden passing, the publication of his early 1980s short story ‘Old Bertie’ is a lasting tribute to a much-loved and fondly remembered husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
