This isn't really a book. It is an essay written because he gave a speech in 86 and the demand to reprint it was high.
The 'book' takes it time in setting up to get to anything really interesting. About 75 percent of the way is when it really gets interesting.
Ponderous and well thought out, if dry.

Harry G. Frankfurt (1929–2023) was professor of philosophy emeritus at Princeton University. His books include On Inequality, The Reasons of Love, and Demons, Dreamers, and Madmen (all Princeton).
