Aldous Huxley (1894–1963) was an English writer and philosopher famed for his intellectual prowess and his contributions to literature as both a novelist and an essayist. Born into a family that was part of the intellectual elite of British society, Huxley carved a unique niche in modern literature. He was educated at Eton and Oxford, and though his initial ambition was to become a scientist, an eye illness left him partially blind and thus shifted his path towards writing ('Aldous Huxley', n.d.).
