About this eBook

A New York Times bestseller for three years and counting!

“A gutsy, candid, and compelling story. It speaks volumes.” —School Library Journal (starred review)
“Unflinching and realistic.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

From award-winning author Sharon Draper comes a story that will forever change how we all look at anyone with a disability, perfect for fans of RJ Palacio’s Wonder.

Eleven-year-old Melody is not like most people. She can’t walk. She can’t talk. She can’t write. All because she has cerebral palsy. But she also has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school, but NO ONE knows it. Most people—her teachers, her doctors, her classmates—dismiss her as mentally challenged because she can’t tell them otherwise. But Melody refuses to be defined by her disability. And she’s determined to let everyone know it…somehow.

(tw: spoilers!) I loved the book and I just finished it last night. When I read it I feel like Im her and every time I stop and put in the bookmark in I think that I need help for a moment and then realize Im not her. I feel her thoughts and me and my sisters have realized that three of the most popular books have people getting hurt, like Penny Melody's little sister gets hit by a car and in blended Isabella gets shot in the arm and my sister read one that had the word tiger in it (I think) and he gets hurt by like a gang or something. Anyways this book is just amazing if I could Id give it 1000000/5

This is the best book I have ever read.a it's super sad in some parts and funny in others I read for my schools Battle of the Books team. My favorite part was when Melody got her talking device and every one actually paid attention to her and got to show off how smart she was.It was truly amazing.

Out of my mind is an inspiring book and makes me want to do more and give back to people like Melody. I would recommend this book for 5th grade and older because it is a little challenging but, a great story. It is about a young girl named Melody who faces many challenges and obstacles, but she over comes them and makes many friends.
