Steve Hawke grew up in Melbourne but, as a 19-year-oldin 1978, found his way to the Northern Territory and thento the Kimberley. Captivated by the country, the historyand the people, he stayed for almost 15 years working forAboriginal communities and organisations. His writingson the Kimberley include Noonkanbah: Whose Land, Whose Law (1989), thechildren’s novel Barefoot Kids (2007), A Town is Born: The Fitzroy CrossingStory (2013) and The Valley, his first novel for adults.
