About this ebook

Enjoy this charming Pride and Prejudice variation by bestselling historical romance author P. O. Dixon… ❤️

Insults and Disdain. Intrigue and Desire.

An impertinent stranger is thrown into Fitzwilliam Darcy's path and, even though he declares her tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt him, it is all he can do not to think of her.

Upon first making Mr. Darcy's acquaintance, Miss Elizabeth Bennet is quite fascinated with him. Then she discovers that the gentleman is haughty and above his company, and she wants nothing to do with him.

Still, the prospect of spending time in each other's company is beyond their power to resist. Will Darcy and Elizabeth stop denying the truth to themselves and find in the other what's been missing in their lives?

This was an interesting variation in that it shuffled around the timeline of certain events (Elizabeth's visit to Kent, for example, takes place before Mr Bingley's letting of Netherfield Park). One of the things I love about most P&P variations is that people who got away with murder in the original usually get their just desserts in the variations. This variation is disappointingly short of those instances. Mrs. Bennet is still flighty and annoying, though thankfully she's not present for most of the book, Lydia never gets put in her place and is even more infuriating than in the original, Wickham gets away with everything and continues to be frustratingly smug, Mr Bennet continues to fail his family by never really taking charge, etc. There were other areas that leave the reader frustrated; like when Collins tells Charlotte that he's throwing Elizabeth out of the house for using her whiles to catch Mr. Darcy and actually blames his wife (quite rudely) for all of it because she was the one who brought Elizabeth to their home. You'd think Charlotte would protest but she doesn't utter a peep and lets her husband continue to berate her. The end is satisfying to a degree, with an epilogue that doesn't go too far into the future (thankfully). But it left me feeling unfulfilled and frustrated. Too much left unfinished (Jane and Bingley aren't even engaged at the end) and too many wrongs that are never righted (Elizabeth continues to always send money to Lydia, Darcy never allows Wickham into his home but allows Lydia to visit, Mr Bennet congratulates himself for having to put out minimal effort and getting so much in return, namely two daughters out of the house and an intent to drop in on Elizabeth and Darcy regularly and with no notice in order to take advantage of the library. It wasn't a bad book, just disappointing.
