Z niespodziewaną pomocą przychodzi mu dawna znajoma, którą Ernst był zainteresowany zanim zawarł niesatysfakcjonujące go małżeństwo. Praca w prestiżowym banku zdaje się otwierać przed nim niedostępne dotąd możliwości. Powieściopisarz, reportażysta. Debiutował w latach 90. Jest autorem kilkunastu słuchowisk i reportaży emitowanych na antenie Polskiego Radia. Wydał kilka cykli reportaży (m.in. „Najwięksi polscy zbrodniarze", „Zabijałem dla mafii") oraz powieści kryminalnych. „Zwerbowana miłość" doczekała się filmowej ekranizacji, zaś na podstawie „Śladami złodziei aniołów" powstał serial telewizyjny. Szlachetko publikował także powieści sensacyjne pod pseudonimem Arthur Ray.
