About this ebook

Get ready for another gripping dark romance from New York Times Bestselling author Penelope Sky! Once you start Cassini and Balto’s story, you won’t be able to put it down until the very end...

My husband is cruel, ruthless, and despicable.

I hate him with every fiber of my being.

The only reason I haven't killed him or tried to run away is because of the promise I made. I sold myself to save someone I loved...and this is the price I have to pay.

I was sitting alone in a bar when the most handsome man walked inside. Striking blue eyes, cheekbones as sharp as glass, and a muscular body fit for a war. He was gorgeous. I couldn't take my eyes off him. When he bought me a drink, I didn't say no. I'd been unfulfilled for so long, and I wanted a real man for the night. My husband had his affairs so why couldn't I?

I noticed the peculiar ring on his right hand, a diamond carved into a skull. If only I'd known what that meant, I would have known who this man was.

The Skull King.

A man more cruel and ruthless than my own husband.

OK granted it is THE Skull King but after 24 books (I can't remember if they are mentioned in the Scotch series) we finally get an inside look at the Skull Kings. Remember that Cane Barsetti was once a Skull King and that the Skull Kings helped save Crow Barsetti from Tristan in the Buttons series. But don't worry, if you haven't read the other series, it can be read as a standalone series. Even though I don't like reading stories with cheating, the fact that Cassini was blackmailed into marriage makes it a little easier for me to read. Penelope Sky also writes such fantastic stories that I cannot help but like the story. Right from the start with Balto and Lucian's first meeting, the pecking order is set and Balto shows what a freakin' bad ass he is. I really enjoyed all the different character relationships in this story and how no one really knows any of the others. The Lucian/Cassini/Balto triangle is transparent to the reader but the characters are left in the dark and it does make for a great read, as the reader gets to know something before the characters do. Balto reminds me of Griffin (Bones Jr. from the Muse series - though Griffin is still my favorite anti-hero ever). There are a couple of surprises but I have to admit that I really loved the ending with it's little cliffhanger. The Muse and Banker series were closely paralleled to the Buttons series but this is something new. Definitely recommend reading this book. I received a copy from the author and wholeheartedly reviewed this book. It's different and I couldn't put it down. Check out this great author.

I've been on a serious audible kick lately and the only thing that can pull me back into reading (don't judge me, I am stretched thin time wise lately) is anything that comes from Penelope's brilliant mind. I seriously haven't read one book from her that isn't on my fav series list. and she is the ONLY author that I've read everything I can get my hands on from her. I read this one in one sitting, it's now almost 2AM and I'm so pumped for the next book in this series (I cannot wait a month). If you are a fan (or at the very least have read the Buttons and Lace series), you have been given a glimpse into the Skull Kings world. well now it's their turn at love. Cassini in a forced, loveless marriage with Balto's (Skull King) enemy. They start an affair without knowing who each other are. cue the lust, passion, and twists! And in typical Sky fashion, an epic cliffhanger making you beg for more. one word: YES. don't second guess it, this is amazing. and I need more of this hot couple!

So I have been a fan of Penelople Sky since the button series. She is an amazing writer. The Skull King even tho has ties to her previous books has their own story line completely you don't have to read her other books to read this but I do highly recommend that you do simply because they are amazing reads. I loved Balto in the beginning and all the way up till the last sentence of this book my interest is peeked as to who he will become now that he "OWNS" Cassini will he still treat her like the Queen he said she deserves to be treated like or will he treat her like a prisoner? Something big is going to happen Balto was able to walk away to easily with Cassini and considering there is two more books in this series its going to be a long 2 months waiting to get to that third book.
