This needs to be a TV show ASAP. This is the penultimum part of this serialized book series. We finally found out who the 'big baddie' is, whom was pulling the strings in regards to Zariya's fathers dead and had a further axe to grind. Seeing Konstantin in such peril was a nice turn of events as he is usually the one that knows what to do and will wing it if necessary to ensure the safety of his team. And while there is plenty of winging in within this installation, I was so for the Vampire scenes. I loved the Eye of Ra moment. I love Ancient Egypt. I cannot wait for Rex to be heavily centered in the final novel. The anticipation of needing to know what is going to happen next is real. I have to know what will happen to the team, and Rex. I read the description for the final novel and I'm worried for him too. Claire is a phenomenal writer, and even with a short amount of time, she makes you feel for the characters, you worry for them and their safety. I do hope that in the final book Zariya's friends comes back to help and maybe even her Aunt. They were the one element I was missing from this book.

Good addition to the series. It continues the story nicely while also giving us some more information about the past of one of the main characters.

About the author

USA Today Bestselling author Claire Luana grew up in Seattle reading everything she could get her hands on and writing every chance she could. Eventually, adulthood won out, and she turned her writing talents to more scholarly pursuits, going to work as a commercial litigation attorney. But it turns out that's not nearly as much fun! Since returning to her more creative roots, Claire has written and published five fantasy series: the Moonburner Cycle, the Confectioner Chronicles, the Mythical Alliance, the Knights of Caerleon, co-written with Jesikah Sundin, and The Faerie Race trilogy, co-written with J.A. Armitage. She is currently writing a new epic fantasy series called the Annals of the Seven Realms. She lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and two dogs. In her (little) remaining spare time, she loves to hike, travel, binge-watch CW shows, and of course, fall into a good book.
