Maria Dörnemann untersucht auf dieser Grundlage die Konstruktion von Bevölkerung und damit verknüpfter politischer Praktiken in Kenia durch lokale, nationale und internationale Akteure für die lange Dauer der 1930er bis in die 1980er Jahre. Sie zeigt, inwiefern sich die Produktion bevölkerungspolitischen Wissens, deren Umsetzung in konkrete Programme und die Entwicklungsvisionen für Kenia zwischen ländlicher Entwicklung und Modernisierung wechselseitig bedingten.
