Prisoner of Night by J.R. Ward Genres: Adult, Crime, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense 4 Stars While this was a good story I didn't feel it was up to J.R. Ward's standards. The first half of the book is vague on character build. You don't really know much about either of the MC's to feel connected to them. You learn more about Ahmare first, but details on Duran don't really come to play until about half way through. Once you get to this point the story starts to flow better and you start to connect more. The action and suspense is high octane. Those parts I loved. There is a lot of intrigue and mystery surrounding both 'Bad' guys. One of which is Duran's father. The adult romance is a slow burn and when it finally ignites it is beyond hot & steamy. I'm not sure where Ms. Ward is going with this novella. The BDB is barely mentioned throughout. There is a very small part about them at the end. All things considered, I have a feeling there is more to this. It felt like a foundation for spin-off and I am curious to see where it will lead in the future. bookshelves: adult, crime, paranormal, romance, suspense 1 highlight (All visible)

Prisoner of Night is a story set in the Black Dagger universe. I really liked the writing of the story. It is J.R. Ward's voice but different, mature, aged like a fine wine. I know there are some readers that knock Ms. Ward for her constant use of pop culture references but I quite like it. It's kind of like her distinct signature. I also really enjoyed the story. It was heartbreaking and hopeful, equally. As horrifying as some parts were, there was amazing courage and strength expertly woven throughout. The story was captivating, entertaining and held me tightly in its grasp until the very end. The characters were intricately crafted and beautifully written. I really enjoyed this aspect of the Black Dagger Brotherhood world. The Brotherhood and Wrath as king is so prominent in the series that there's not much room for anything or anyone else. I love how Ms. Ward is turning the perspective in these novellas to give us stories featuring vampires of all walks of life. I am very excited to find out where she'll lead us next!

Especially When Savior The Book After Prisoner of Night Came Out in Hard Back. If J R Ward and Publisher are Only Going to Do Audio and E-Books. It Saddens Me to Drop This Author. I Have Spent a Lot of Money on This Black Dagger BrotherHood Series And Now I am Missing a What I am Sure Is a Great Book. You Broke Up My Series. Co-Workers, Friends, and Family Members Have Ask Repeatedly for My Series. But Don't Want It If Books are Missing.
