Maisie Kentworth is being forced to stay on her parents' ranch. While closing up a spent mine, Boone gets two surprises. One is a spitfire farm girl who's trespassing with a pickax, and the other is the amazing crystal cavern that she's discovered. Suddenly Boone sees a way to overhaul the family business. With part of the cavern on Kentworth land, Boone makes Maisie a proposal that he hopes will solve all of their problems. Instead it throws Joplin into chaos, and it will take all of Maisie's gumption to set things right.

Proposing Mischief is a very entertaining book with a twist of humor. Not saying it is a humorous book as it is not. It has a very serious plot. The main female character, Maisie Kentworth has been grounded to stay within the boundaries of their ranch. Because of her romance with Silas, a man who charmed his way into her heart, then she found out he was a scoundrel with illegitimate children. Her brothers have vowed to protect her from him, so the only way she can leave the ranch is with them. Some would consider her “backwoods” because of her grammar and dress, although she is quite intelligent. Then there is Boone Bragg, who is in charge of the family’s mining business, while his parents are on vacation. The mine is not producing so Boone has decided to sell it. While preparing to sell and trying to escape designing females who are trying to force him into compromising situations, so he will have to marry them, he is in a rather trying position…….then enters Maisie. Hold onto your seats for a very entertaining ride. You will definitely keep reading and enjoying this delightful book. My thanks to the publisher for an early copy and my review is in my own words.

This is book two in the Joplin Chronicles, even though it is a stand alone book you will miss a lot of history in the Kentworth family and the town of Joplin, plus book one, Courting Misfortune is a great read, if you jump right into this one. This book we learn more about Maisie Kentworth, she is a fun, spunky farm girl just looking for some freedom. When Boone Bragg, the mine owner who would like his own style of freedom, comes up with a off the cuff plan, things really get exciting. Maisie may have the answers she has been looking for or maybe just created more problems. This book is full of fun, spunky, misunderstanding, mystery, humor and of course romance. I really enjoyed this entire read and look forward to book three in this series. I love the writing style of Regina Jennings. If you like historical romance you will love this book. I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.

In Proposing Mischief, spunky and spirited Maisie Kentworth gets paired up with bookish and introverted Boone in a marriage of convenience story that makes you laugh out loud until the very end. Maisie is up to her normal antics with her outspoken and unconventional family, and boy do they get into some mischief! This story does make us love Maisie more as a heroine, since the first book in the Joplin Chronicles series did not show us her most rational and endearing side. The story is actually a bit goofy, but in an adorable and entertaining way that makes for fun, light-hearted reading. I love how Regina Jennings used true history from her hometown of Joplin to make a plotline that is unusual but believable! Who would have thought there was a real crystal cavern that was converted into a tourist attraction at the turn of the century? Only real-life could inspire such a unique plotline, but Regina Jennings took that interesting history and threw in some complex yet lovable characters to create her own wonderful narrative. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a light read with an entertaining cast of characters, and I cannot wait to see what happens next to the Kenworth family of Joplin! I received a copy of this book from the author for review purposes, but my thoughts are my own. I really did love it!
