저자 정보

Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, known affectionately as P. G. Wodehouse, was an English author and one of the most widely read humorists of the 20th century. Born on October 15, 1881, in Guildford, England, his literary career spanned over seventy years, during which he delighted readers with his masterly crafted prose, memorable characters, and whimsical plots. Wodehouse's work includes a prodigious array of novels, short stories, plays, poems, and lyrics for musical comedies. His early education at Dulwich College would eventually be reflected in the vivid school-life depicted in his writing. After brief stints at a bank and as a journalist, Wodehouse's literary career blossomed. Among his most beloved creations is the iconic character Psmith, a charming and idiosyncratic gentleman who features in several novels including 'Leave it to Psmith' and 'Psmith in the City'. This character highlights Wodehouse's skill in using wit, satire, and a distinctive narrative voice to create enduring literature. His works have been praised for their linguistic inventiveness and enduring appeal. Wodehouse was also renowned for the creation of Jeeves, the perfect valet, and Wooster, his well-meaning but bumbling employer, immortalizing the duo in the Jeeves and Wooster series. Despite facing controversy during World War II, which impacted his reputation for a time, Wodehouse's work maintains an enduring appeal, and he continues to be regarded as a giant of English humor. He was knighted in 1975, shortly before his death on February 14 of that year, a fitting tribute to the life of a literary maestro.
