內封葉題"道光甲申鐫, 史記菁華錄, 扶荔山房藏版", 卷首尾均有康熙辛丑(60年, 1721)苧田氏題辭及識語, 並有牌記云"道光甲申秋八月, 吳興姚氏刊於扶荔山房". 框18.5 x 14.5公分, 9行20字, 小字雙行同, 大黑口, 左右雙邊, 單黑魚尾, 版心中鐫題名及卷次, 下鐫朱墨板葉數. 行間印有朱文圈點, 天頭印有朱文眉批, 楷體字, 7字, 行不等. 案, 卷中不題選注者姓名, 因姚祖恩扶荔山房本為此書最早之刻本, 故道光二十三年(1843)貴州按察使吴振棫重刻此書時便稱"此本為吾鄉姚祖恩摘錄", 同治間趙承恩紅杏山房刻本亦延其說, 稱此書乃"錢塘姚公苎田先生摘錄", 而後則以訛相傳, 姚氏遂成為此書之選注者. 近年始有學者提出異議, 蓋苧田氏識語中已明確稱此書成於康熙六十年, 而姚祖恩乃乾隆至道光間人, 故姚氏不可能為此書之選注者, 而僅是此書之刊行者而已. 姚祖恩, 字柳漪, 或作柳依, 號笏園, 浙江錢塘縣人, 乾隆四十九年(1784)進士, 發放廣東以知縣用, 約生於乾隆二十七年(1762), 道光九年(1829)尚在世, 其於道光七年(1827)所刻明沈德符《野獲編》序言中署名為"錢塘姚祖恩笏園氏識於羊城邸寓之扶荔山房", 則扶荔山房乃其廣州寓所之書齋名. 此本自稱"吳興姚氏", 蓋錢塘古時為吳興郡所屬之故也. 至於編注此書之苧田氏究竟為何人, 則尚待考證.
